About the event
The Diriyah E-Prix 2019 is the first race of Season 6 of the FIA ABB Formula E Championship, the world’s premier all-electric motorsport series which is contributing massively to the development of new technologies, renewable energies and electric vehicles.
The race which is another unique example of the historic steps the country’s leadership is taking to implement its Vision 2030, marks the second year of a 10-year partnership between ABB FIA Formula E and the General Sports Authority of Saudi Arabia and the Saudi Arabian Motor Federation (SAMF) and will be staged again by promoter CBX.
Season 6 of the FIA ABB Formula E Championship will be contested by 24 cars from 12 teams, with Mercedes and Porsche having their debut. Beginning with a double header in Saudi Arabia on the 22nd and 23rd of November 2019, it will race 12 times in 10 countries world-wide including – Chile, Mexico, Hong Kong, China, Italy, France, Germany, USA and finishes with another double header in the UK. Last year Diriyah race was the launchpad for the new Gen 2 race cars and the exciting Attack Zone innovation. This year will be the first-time drivers will have an additional 10kW of power available when using Attack Mode, rising from 225kW to 235kW. It will be held on a track measuring 1.76 miles (2.83 km) and featuring 21 corners, a track that can never host any fossil fuelled race given its nature as a UNESCO heritage site.
The event returns to Diriyah a place dating back to 1774 ready more than ever to welcome international tourists with the surrounding Turaif district undergoing an ambitious development programme this year, with thousands more trees planted, plus trails, picnic areas and walking paths created. Fans will have more action-packed entertainment, from live performances taking place in a new, custom built amphitheatre to greater greener chill out zones and thrilling, adrenalin pumping activities from a 100 metre zipline wire to bungee jumping zones. The most futuristic and sustainable motorsport series in the world which is contributing massively to the development of new technologies, renewable energies and electric vehicles. The event brings together live sport, music, entertainment and culture, for the most elegant and exciting season ever witnessed in the history of the country, all held at the UNESCO heritage site on the outskirts of Riyadh, a place dating back to 1774.
