Palaces of the Imams and Princes Open Their Doors for the First Time

As Diriyah Season Launches Hal Al-Qusoor Program in At-Turaif Historic District

Diriyah, November 19, 2025 – As part of Diriyah Season 25/26, Hal Al-Qusoor Program officially launched today in At-Turaif Historic District, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2010 (1431 AH), and one of the largest mudbrick districts in the world.

The program, which receives visitors daily from 4:00 PM, features the opening of several palaces of Imams and Princes to the public for the very first time. It brings to life the complex administrative, social, cultural, and human experiences that created the beating heart of historic Diriyah during the period of the First Saudi State through theatrical performances, live storytelling, and interactive experiences showcasing traditional councils, receptions, and family events that once took place within these palaces.

The historic district of At-Turaif is distinguished by its authentic Najdi architecture and stands as a symbol of leadership and governance in historic Diriyah. Imam Abdulaziz bin Mohammad bin Saud chose this location in 1180 AH / 1766 AD for its strategic position on the western bank of Wadi Hanifah. The district comprises 13 palaces and 5 mosques, capturing the strength and beauty of Najdi architecture. Among them is Salwa Palace, the main palace, surrounded by several notable public facilities such as Sbalat Moudhi (a charitable endowment), Bayt Al-Mal (the treasury), At-Turaif Grand Mosque, and Hammam At-Turaif (At-Turaif Bathhouse), together highlighting the quality of life historically enjoyed by Diriyah’s residents.

The program allows visitors to explore six historic palaces, each with its own symbolism. Imam Abdullah bin Saud Palace represents resilience; Prince Turki bin Saud bin Abdulaziz Palace embodies honor and patience; Prince Thunayan bin Saud bin Mohammed bin Muqrin Palace reflects the value of knowledge; Prince Mishari bin Saud bin Mohammed bin Muqrin Palace symbolizes unity and kinship; Prince Saad bin Saud bin Abdulaziz Palace signifies architecture and innovation; whilst Prince Nasser bin Saud bin Abdulaziz Palace represents security and the protection of caravans that sought shelter in Diriyah, an important regional trade and cultural hub.

Hal Al-Qusoor offers a comprehensive cultural and historical experience, highlighting the role of the leaders of the First Saudi State in building and defending Diriyah, and illuminates the historical importance of At-Turaif as a center for culture and social cohesion. The program stands as a cornerstone of Diriyah Season, bridging the past and present, showcasing the daily lives and practices of the Imams and Princes, and preserving the legacy of Saudi leadership. It provides visitors, both local and international, with a direct and immersive experience through interactive performances that strengthen the sense of connection to this historic site.
