Souq Al-Mawsim Launches in the Historic Al-Tawalie Area

Diriyah, November 9, 2025: Today marks the launch of Souq Al-Mawsim, part of the Diriyah Season 25/26 programs, in Al-Tawalie area, one of Diriyah’s important historical and natural sites. The program unfolds in the vibrant atmosphere of “Al-Najnaj”: the loud voices of vendors and shoppers in traditional markets.

This year’s edition of Souq Al-Mawsim holds special significance as it celebrates Japan and the rich heritage of Kyoto, commemorating 70 years of diplomatic relations between Saudi Arabia and Japan. The market’s design reflects a fusion of both cultures, from aesthetic elements to details that embody the essence of each tradition, offering visitors a sensory experience that deepens appreciation for Saudi and Japanese heritage.

The program receives visitors daily from 4:00 p.m., featuring 20 retail outlets, 15 restaurants, and a variety of activities and exhibitions showcasing handicrafts and traditional attire. It also includes areas dedicated to traditional Saudi cuisine, musical and artistic performances reflecting Diriyah’s heritage, and interactive spaces for cultural exchange between Saudi and Japanese artisans. Souq Al-Mawsim thus serves as a platform where past meets present, and history converges with creativity.

Historically, Al-Tawalie area was known for its agricultural diversity and natural richness, home to historic farms along the banks of Wadi Hanifah. The program draws inspiration from the original Souq Al-Mawsim, once one of the most prominent markets in the Arabian Peninsula during the First Saudi State. At that time, trade caravans from across the region would gather there, making it a thriving center for commerce and cultural exchange, a legacy now revived through Diriyah Season’s Souq Al-Mawsim program.

Souq Al-Mawsim program aims to highlight Diriyah’s cultural and historical identity and strengthen its global position as a destination for heritage and cultural exchange. It offers an immersive experience combining artistic performances, craft markets, and interactive activities that blend authentic Najdi traditions with contemporary creativity.

Diriyah Season 25/26 continues the vision of Diriyah Gate Development Authority to solidify Diriyah’s position as the birthplace of the Saudi state and a permanent center for cultural vitality. Through programs that celebrate authentic Najdi values and present them to the world in a modern way, the season aligns with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030 to make culture and tourism key drivers of sustainable development in the Kingdom.
